chicken broth

tonymarinara Aug 24, 2005 01:04 PM

I just had a thought the other day and I was curious if anyone here had ever thought of it. Would it be harmful in any way to give my cat chicken broth instead of water? I would not do it all the time, but I can't think of anything harmful with chicken broth, and, as juvenile as it may sound, I've always felt bad that my cat has to drink water when I get such a selection of tasty beverages. Would this possibly cause a weight problem? Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.....

Chicken Broth is full of salt. Probably not a good idea.

Actually, chicken broth is only full of salt if you make it that way. I don't give it as a substitute for water, but I've always given chicken broth to my cats.

Hi Tony,

I would just stick with water for your cat. It may sound boring to us, but that is just because we are used to having variety.
I agree with Jaime, chicken broth is loaded with salt, which wouldn't be good for a cat. Even a low-salt variety would contain too much salt.

Water is healthiest for us to drink also, but I have to admit that I enjoy variety myself

Regards,
AshleyElla
