tummy knots

jadzia Sep 06, 2005 03:37 PM

Anybody have any hints for preventing or getting rid of tummy knots, especially under the arms and around the private regions?
My main coon mix, orestes, loves to have his tummy rubbed and scratched, just not brushed, which causes a problem. His former owner would have to cut the knotts off around his privates every month or so because he would start to get smelly, but I would think that there is a better way of dealing with it than constant trimming.

We pull out the shaver and shave Moxie's matts off in those areas.

Trimming - VERY CAREFULLY - is probably the only answer since your cat doesn't like the brushing. There are mat combs you can get - and you might try to use one on your cat.

You can also try touching the cat's "sensitive" areas with the brush/comb then giving him an ultimate cat treat. Do this several times a day for a bit then graduate to a stroke...keep going gradually until he will tolerate the brush/comb.
