Older cat vaccination

fur_momma Sep 28, 2005 05:16 PM

Hello!
I have taken under my care an older cat, we guess to be about 11 years old. She was abandoned by her previous owner, who had her spayed, but not vaccinated. I have been caring for her for about 2 years now (love her very much) and she is fairly feral.
Today, I took her to the vet for the first time. She had a ruptured anal gland. The vet wants to vaccinate her, but I don't know. I adopted a cat when he was 11 years old about 2 years ago, took him to the vet and had him vaccinated and within a year he was dead. He came to us perfectly healthy. He was declawed, and an indoor cat.

This kitty I am talking about is obviously an outdoor cat, being semi-feral, but she has lived all these years with no vaccinations. And after this, I doubt I'll ever get her back to the vet again for any follow up vaccinations. (They don't have mobile vaccinations here).

I am to pick her up in about an hour, but they can vaccinate her between now and then. I just don't know. I'm sure some of you have some great sites that may answer my question.

THANKS!
Jacqueline
