Is this stray kitty pregnant?

alleyrat Dec 03, 2005 06:34 PM

Came across a stray a few days ago and took her in. She was ridden with fleas but what concerned me the most is that her belly is round and firm. It extends out on the sides about 1.5-2 inches when you hold her up. She's a slight cat very small and short where she actually slides across the floor and she can't jump very well. I'm concerned she may be pregnant. If you blow on her stomach the hair seperates from her nipple area but they are still a medium pink and are small not enlarged. What other pregnancy signs would there be? She's a very sweet cat and is content to just lay in your lap being petted. She also is hissing and causing a fuss with my male kitties all of whom are neutured. I'm taking her into the mobile spay clinic next month but would like to know what other signs I should look for that would indicate if she was pregnant. And if so how far along would she be?

Hi,

I suggest that you take this stray kitty to the vet for an exam, Feline Leukemia test, and deworming if the vet advises it. Then you would also be able to find out for sure if she is pregnant.

I think it's wonderful that you took in this kitty, but you want to make sure that she is healthy. You don't want to put the other cats at risk.

Also, if you used an over-the-counter flea product, please don't use it again. These products can be lethal to cats. It's always best to get something safe and effective from a vet.

Good luck with the new addition! She sounds like a real sweetie.
