There is a cat who is always around our house. we don't know where she came from, but is always here. we think she is now pregnant and we don't know if she is a stray, or has an owner. somebody feeds her we never have but she always sleeps here. I'm not sure what to do for her, but would like to have her fixed after she births if thats what is going on. Is this a bad idea as she isn't ours? I feel a little bit responsible just because she has been sleeping here outside since she was a small kitten, about 5-6 months. she is a very nice cat, she even puts up with our 4 year old, and if we were allowed to have pets we probably would have taken her in.
I appreciate any advice. thanks

She doesn't really sound like she's "anybody's cat", although she seems to get her food somewhere else. She is bonded to you and will probably give birth somewhere close by.

I think you should go ahead and get her spayed. It's in her best interests after all, even if she "belongs" to someone - which I doubt.

Hi There,

It sounds to me like you have a cat! She may be eating somewhere else, but she spends most of her time at your house.

I would go ahead and have her spayed after the kittens are born. Otherwise, she will continue to have litters and will be at high risk for developing mammary cancer and/or uterine infections.

Start offering her food so that you know she will be getting as much as she wants. Kitten food is a good idea for pregnant and nursing cats.

Take care, and start thinking of this kitty as yours

Regards,
PHKitkat
