nasal polyp surgery anyone?

nab219 Jun 21, 2006 06:00 PM

Last august I took in a skinny feral kitten who had a upper respiratory infection. He was treated with 4 antibiotics plus lysine and still has nasal congestion sounds plus being underweight. I took him to a vet diagnostic specialistic who recommended he have a thorough eat and oral exam under sedation
plus skull films. If they see a polyp they will remove it . If there is no polyp then they will scope his nose and do a biopsy.
Has anyone had experience with this surgery?

I have not had this experience myself, but from what you've said this sounds like something sensible. Hopefully someone else who knows more than I do will notice this title and help you!

Hi,

Yes, I have helped with this surgery and cats recover well from it. It can be a little tricky to get the polyp out, depending on where exactly it is located, and there is usually some sneezing of blood afterwards. Same with a biopsy.

Skull films are helpful too, as they allow the vet to see the condition of the cat's sinuses. Your vet is very thorough, and that is a good thing.

Please let us know when your baby will be having surgery.

Thanks for the info. My vet actually referred me to a vet specialist diagnostic center where I saw the surgeon. Vet hospitals are really fancy now.
