Hi my name is Katie. I've had lots of expeirience w/ other herps but recently found a love for Russian Tortoises. I will probably get one closer toward christmas but iv'e been doing research so i'll be ready. I am going to get a 50gal rubbermaid box to keep it in and i have not yet decided on the substrate. Any recomendations???? Also any other tips?? Thanxs, Katie

Go to the site below for the best info out there on them. Also join the russian tortoise yahoo group. There is a link on the site for it. Good luck and they are so great to have.

Hi! Yes I have 4 russians. For substrate inside I use a mixture of bed-a-beast and sand and for outside it is just natural dirt from the ground that was already there. Good luck

Yes, that what i was thinking about using a mixture of bed-a-beast and sand. I live in Georgia so it gets pretty cold so i will be keeping it inside. Do you think the 50gal rubbermaid tub will be ok??? Do i need bigger?? Katie

Hi. Well it might be big enough. These are very active little guys even though they are small. What I am using with my two younger/littler/newer ones is a 4 ft kiddie pool.

I hope the link works but that is the pic of my enclosure. When that was taken they were on worming meds so I just had paper in there. Now there is the substrate mentioned earlier and they like it so much better.
