fixed cat still goes in heat

mike_is_me Dec 30, 2006 01:21 PM

my cat was fixed about a year ago, soon after we adopted her (she was a stray) but she still goes into heat, and she does it a lot, sometimes as often as every couple weeks. and because this is one of the most irritating things ever, i was wondering what can be done to stop this? does it mean that the vet didnt fix her properly?
thanks in advance

Sometimes a bit of ovarian tissue can be left behind and cause the cat to go through heat cycles. Unfortunately the only option to stop this behavior is surgery, although she won't get pregnant because her uterus and ovaries have been removed. It depends on how annoying to you the heat periods are. It is probably best to take the cat back to the vet and discuss the situation with him/her.

Good luck!
