Home Cooked Pet Food

I will (hopefully) be adopting two siamese kittens within the next month or so. I did all that I thought was proper when I adopted a young kitten in July, but despite my precautions he became very ill (most likely due to a congenital problem). I do still, however, wonder if there was anything I could have done. As a result, I am investigating the possibility of home-cooking my cat food. I am not comfortable with Raw ... as processed meat acquires bacteria that cats would not normally encounter in the wild. Can anyone offer me information, suggestions, and most of all, recipes? There is a plethora of information out there but it's all very general and seems to lean toward the raw diet.

Thank you in advance for your responses!
Emily

I also wanted to postulate another idea ... The cat's natural food source in the wild would be mice and small birds. My husband and I breed snakes so we have an abundance of frozen mice available at any given time. What would be the cons (besides yuck factor), if any, to feeding a cat frozen/thawed mice and rats?
