I typically find wild females with breeding scars in May and June (these are scars left on the underside of the female's chin and tail where the male held her during breeding and courtship). This year I found an injured female with such scars in mid June. She laid a clutch of 15 eggs towards the end June. The eggs hatched August 23. I found hatchlings in my backyard as well at this time. The hatchlings are about 4 inches from head to tail tip when they hatch. If you're thining of a pet, the babies make much better captives than the adults provided you handle them regularly.
