my poor sick cat

smackius Nov 02, 2003 11:54 PM

my cat is 8 years old, and recently stopped eating. i can sometimes coax chicken or some tasty people food into her, but in general she isnt eating or drinking and is getting very skinny. i took her to the vet and had blood tests done, but they didnt find anything. i recently left for college, and left her back at home. i was wondering if it was possibly for a cat to starve herself because she missed me. andy help would be very much appreciated

She could be pining away for you, although more than likely it is something else. I would have another vet, preferably one that specializes in felines do a very thorough exam.

If the cause can't be determined, then ask about some sort of anti-anxiety medication that might help her keep eating if she misses you.

Poor baby!

hi. my older cat stopped eating when his brother passed away. we ended up feeding him via syringe for a week to get him eating. I think they can miss us or a friend and just stop eating. After a vet checkup (blood and urine, exam), I'd try and have the folks around him fuss over him, offer him treats from their hand, and just give him extra attention. Forcefeeding from a syringe may be necessary. Maybe a companion kitty.

take care,

Get a can of salmon Fancey Feast and mix some tiny salad shrimp in it and see what happens.I think that will get her started again.
