all four cats throwing up frequently!

lswatts Nov 20, 2003 05:08 AM

We have four cats all under four years old. They share food dishes and kitty litter.

They are routinely coughing with a horse cough and then throwing up their food. (Not hairballs)

They all look healthy and don't seem to be loosing weight.
Eyes clear, fur clean, run around and play alot.

Should we be concerned? Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

Larry

Any excessive vomiting in cats is a cause for concern. I know it is hard to get four cats to the vet, but they do need to be checked.

Try raising the bowls up about six inches where the cats don't have to bend down to eat. Sometimes this helps.

They may have worms. I don't remember the type that make them cough but our cats (two adults) had that problem. They would do this funny hacking kind of cough, and some times throw up. I would bring at least one to the vet to see if they have worms.

If it's not worms it may be a food allergy. But that would be strange that all four cats are allergic to the same food.

Good Luck.

Larry this is strange.I to would recommend seeing a vet.If they were my cats i would first change there food and then get some bottled water to give them. Some places have a lot of chemicals in there water.
I don't know if you make there food or use commercial food but if you make it double check what you are putting in it.Commercial food you shouldn't have any proplem with it except getting them what they like.I give mine the commercial food he likes and never have a proplem.
For all four of them to have the same proplem sounds like a eating or drinking proplem.Give the Vet there diet.

How long has this been going on? Is it something new? Have you changed their food recently? What does the vomit look like? Is it from dry food? Is it almost immediately after eating? If so, are the kibbles easily seen.....as if they threw up exactly what they put down. They may be gorging on their food. Four cats may be thinking if they don't eat fast enough, the others will get to it.

I would find it hard to imagine all four cats having digestive problems. But if it continues, take one to the vet and if something is discovered, assume the other three have the same thing.

Thats a good possibility Rose.Thats why cats should have food and water in there dishes 24 hours a day. They don't gorge themslves.

My Timothy used to gorge and vomit all the time. We had dry food out 24/7. Seemed once he got started eating, he would just eat too fast and well....

Hopefully the four kitties in question are doing well at this time.
