HELP! could there be something wrong with my cat?can you inform me?

Mrs_large Jun 10, 2004 05:14 PM

hello!
i am new to this site... but anyways. i have a beautiful 12-yr old cat, that is a Calico. her name is Keashuberry(key-shoe-barry), and she is over-weight, she weezes and snores, and she will barely budge when i take her out for walks. she eats her own food, then of course, she goes after the dogs...i tried putting her on dieting foods,i.e--> Iams weight-control, ScienceDiet, and i have even bought her toys that i thought she might bat around for even the slightest bit of exercise, but she still just lays around. is there ANY way i could get her to loose weight? is there any things i could do to prevent any future health problems/situations?? can you please help me, help my cat? any help would be much appreciated.

Probably the best thing you could do for your cat is get a full veterinary exam (at her age that is wise anyway!) to be sure there are no underlying medical problems. Then you should put her on a low-cal version of a very premium food - check for human grade meat and absolutely no corn meal! Wellness and Nutro are often recommended as is Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. Give her the minimum dosage even if it is for an 8 pound cat - because she should probably weigh that much.

I have the same problem with a lazy daisy cat. He just won't move. Nothing really entices him. Just keep trying to get her to move as much as possible and limit her food intake and get her off the corn meal.

MA is right. I just want to say you shouldn't cut her back quickly. It could make her sick. Take a little bit away at a time. Until you are the right amount of food.
