one cat being bully and eating other cats's food

lindyhobbit Jan 05, 2005 09:11 AM

I have two cats (brother and sister) the problem is that the male eats his own food but then when the female starts to eat he leaves his food and eats out of her bowl and then she walks away - how can I stop this? The female cat also seems to be put off her food easily eg if there is a noise while she is eating. Any suggestions?

Sadly, the only answer is separate scheduled feedings and feeding the female in a very quiet place where the male is not around. You may have to sit with her while she eats.

Cats do well with scheduled feedings - in fact many behaviorists recommend them instead of "free feeding" where the food is always available. Cats very quickly learn that the food dish is going to be removed at a certain time and will adjust their intake accordingly.

Good luck!
