Medic!! One tinc with a grey eye.

joseph1 Oct 13, 2003 10:58 PM

Just noticed this today. The eye is really dark but not as black as it should be. from an angle it appears dark blue-grey. It is difficult to notice so I have no idea how long it has been this way.

It is a patricia of unknown sex about 7-8months old. The frog seems to be in good health, FAT and eating with good aim. Does this sound like a possible injury or bacteria??? I'm thinking injury but watching close.

A little over a year ago, I had an azureus that displayed the same symptoms. Not knowing what to do and being unable to afford a vet visit, I headed to the local aquarium shop and purchased some *mycin (may have been kanamycin or neomycin...it's been a while). I diluted 1/10 of this in a gallon jug of spring water. For aquariums, the dilution is one capsule to 10 gallons..1/10 for 1 gallon. You'll have to do some guess work unless you have the proper equipment to measure this out to an accurate ammount. Anyway, I quaruntined the frog and sprayed him once daily with this solution and it seemed to have done the trick. The cloudiness slowly receded over the course of 2 weeks and finally cleared up altogether. The other eye showed no symptoms. I would seriously confer with a vet. Dr. David Frye keeps ALOT of darts and knows herp medicine well. He is my supplier for my meds and is coaching me through another ill azureus that has an infection in his rear leg *pic below*. He can be reached at Dr.Frye@comcast.net
Best of luck with your frog and I'm sure it's nothing major provided it gets proper attention ASAP. Godspeed to you and your frogs!

Thanks Bill, I started looking for Frye email address after your posting on frognet, glad you included it here because I couldn't find it.

Hopefully he will get back to me tomorrow.

If he want's a million dollars for meds, that frog is going to be doing dishes and yard work for a long time.
