Not eating

ponygal1129 Jan 18, 2006 09:15 AM

My 19 yr old girl is dealing with an upper respiratory problem. She is not eating. I am trying to tempt her with liquids, pureeing her canned food so she can lap it up easier, and baby foods. I have also tried using the stinkiest foods I can find (fishy fishy). She picks but that's all. I have recently been supplementing her with NutriCal.

So far the baby foods seem to be the thing she responds to the most. Should I make that her regular diet until she regains enough weight and strength to start eating regular food again? And I have no idea how much to feed her if I switch to it full time.

NOTE: She is on amoxycillin for the infection. Is that possibly affecting her appetite?

Thanks!

Hi There,

Yes, the amoxicillin may be affecting your cat's appetite.

There is nothing wrong with feeding baby food for a period of time if that is what your kitty will eat. You might also try canned A/D, which you would get from your vet.

Have you tried 9 Lives tuna on your cat? How about some of the Fancy Feast fish flavors? These all seem to be extra stinky.

If your baby is eating very poorly, please don't wait too long to take her back to the vet. Senior kitties can lose ground very quickly.

Regards,
PHKitkat
