6 yr not eating after intro of new cat

vgasior Sep 23, 2006 09:42 AM

I have had my cat Johnny for 6 years. We recently moved out of a house with 2 other cats and a dog. He was like a new cat, having a great time, running and playing. For my birthday my friend got me a kitten. Johnny slowly seeped into this depression where he was not eating as much and secluding himself. I decided that it was best not to put my cat through this so I gave the kitten back to my friend. It has been over 2 days and Johnny has not eaten at all and all he does is sleep. I got him to eat some treats and drink some milk but that is all so far. A friend says that he will eat when he is hungry but I am afraid that he won't. Any suggestions?? Should I take him to the vet?

Thanks,
Vanessa

Try tempting Johnny with some baby food meat (be sure there is no onion in it!) - or try some fishy-type canned catfood. If he hasn't started eating by Monday he will need to see a vet - sometimes a lack of appetite can actually get worse and the cat will develop fatty liver problems and need to be force fed. The sooner you can get him to either eat or get him to the vet the better off you will be.
