Cat not eating

reilles Feb 06, 2007 11:00 AM

Our little lulu 10 months old has stopped eating, we took here to the vet,he gave her an injection because her temperture was high and said her body was fighting something. We have to wait two days and if no change to bring her back for her to have blood tests.Today she do not even go for a wee in her tray.Lulu will not eat even cooked ham, she will follow me around for it but when I give it to her she just licks the ham.

Other that not eating she is running around it doesnt make sense to us .We have been so worried about our little Lulu.

We got her from the RSPCA when she was 12 weeks old and she had be spaded, that is what you aggree to when you buy a cat from them. This was about 3 months ago when she

The only thing we did different was to put her wormming fliud on the back of her neck lastFriday .LuLu has been a little off since then.

We will be taking her to the vets tommorow.

What kind of parasite fluid did you put on the back of her neck? You should only use anti-parasitic chemicals approved by your vet and OTC meds can be very dangerous. Also, when you see that vet, have them run a urinalysis because cystitis is very painful and an animal in a lot of pain may refuse to eat. How often is she visiting the litter box and is she straining when she goes? I have also had cats with GI infections that have stopped eating. Have the vet do a complete work up for you so you are sure not to miss anything. I hope your kitty gets better.

Thanks,we took her to the vets this evening and he said there is no evidence of any dehydration,he did give her a vitamin injection because she hasnt eaten 5 days and still looks healty.Last Thursday night we put stronghold fluid ie:for worming e.t.c supplied by our vet.Come Friday didnt want to eat or drink. You name the food, and I bet we have tried to give Lulu.

Tommorow 8.00am Lulu is going to have blood tests to rule out what we can.

The funny thing is she will follow me around if Ihave cooked ham in front of her then when I give it to her she just likes it.Also she is still playing but maybe not as much.

She did not go to the tray today to do anything.

I will say a little pray for her tonight for the results tommorrow.

Regards

Garry

Do you have access to California Natural in your area? This is a really great all natural food formulated for both cats and kittens. I have an extremely picky cat and she loves this stuff. I switch all my animals out between this and Natural Balance every couple of days and it seems to work very well. I still say have the vet do a urinalysis because if she's not urinating, this is a big problem. I just had a cat that had cystitis last month and it wasn't very nice. Good luck at the vet tomorrow.

Hi Garry,

A cat that hasn't eaten in 5 days is very ill. Lulu is now at high risk for something known as fatty liver disease, which can occur whenever a cat stops eating for as little as 2 - 3 days. This liver ailment is extremely serious and can even be fatal without treatment.

Since you got the de-wormer from the vet it should be ok. But I really doubt that parasites are Lulu's primary problem. She not only needs bloodwork done, but should also have abdominal x-rays, and possibly even a urinalysis. If she has never been tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS, this needs to be done as well.

You can try offering Lulu strained meat baby foods (with no onion added) if you can find it. Sometimes sick cats will eat this kind of food before they will eat anything else.

I'll be thinking of your kitty and will be praying for her. Please keep us updated on how she is doing and her test results.

Regards,
PHKitkat
