Male cat won't eat dry food

srises Oct 16, 2008 02:24 PM

My male russian blue has never eaten dry food, for the entire time he has been in my home (since kitten-hood), I've tried different brands, and wetting the dry, he will not even eat a small amount to taste, just ignores the bowl completely. I have a 2 1/2 year old female, who eats both canned and dry, I leave both down during the day, and since I don't return home until evening, she has eaten most of the canned and has all of the dry, so I think he goes hungry until the nightly canned feeding. he seems to be slightly sensitive as far as scents and chewing. Any thoughts?

Actually, the canned is probably better for them. Perhaps try splitting the ration of canned food in to two feedings, morning and evening so he doesn't go so long without food. Some cats just prefer one or the other and no amount of trying will change them to eating the other type of food. Although I am surprised with a RB that he won't eat them. I'm used to abys who rarely meet a food they won't eat. Most Russian Blues are similar to abys in that respect.

Has his vet checked his mouth and teeth? Perhaps he has a dental problem of some sort.
