Loosing Teeth

lizard-lady Dec 27, 2003 09:49 PM

Hello,

This is the first time I have posted to this forum.

I have a beautiful blue Cornish Rex named Bluerose. She is about 4yrs. old. She is loosing her teeth. Just yesterday she lost one of her big pointy ones in the front. I feed her dry and moist food. I am going to take her to the vet monday. I would like to know if anyone has a cat with the same problem and can tell me what's going on. I love her very much, she is a very sweet baby and I feel very bad this is happening to her.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Barbara

This is very young for a cat to be losing teeth and I'm glad you are planning to see a vet ASAP!

I am certain the vet will know what to look for, but do ask about underlying medical causes - especially any vitamin deficiancy that would cause tooth loss. Of course gum disease and disease of the jaw bone will need to be carefully checked. There is a disease called juvenile gingivitis which is associated with bone loss. A full blood workup should be done to screen for FIV and Feline Leukemia.
