Cat has a fat hard belly

bonkelsmeeks Jan 22, 2004 10:31 PM

My cat was a stray but has been strictly indoors since June. She escaped one time in September and when we finally took her to be spayed back in November, she was pregnant. We asked the vet to abort her and spay her. She came home and recooperated well. We have a kitten from her last litter who was about 6 months old at the time. Well, this kitten began to nurse again any time she felt hungry. The vet said to separate them any time we see it and the milk will eventually dry up. The nursing has stopped but the cat has been getting rounder and rounder. we have our older cat on weight loss food and so we started giving that to this cat too but she hasn't dropped any weight and her belly is hard. Is this weird? Or is it just that she's being fed better now that she lives indoors - so she gained some weight? Should I contact a vet - or wait it out to see if she looeses some weight? Thanks.

I think you should probably contact the vet. Any strange change you notice in a cat usually should be checked out. It may be something as simple as gas, or maybe some scar tissue from the spay, but it's best to be sure that all is well.

Good luck!

I agree with MA on the vet visit or call. I don't like that her belly is hard, and she has been spayed.
