eye, neurological, seizure, death

ladycleo Feb 07, 2004 10:15 PM

My cat had blood in the lower part of the eye, and then the eye filled with blood. Neurological problems started, with legs giving out, and lack of some reflexes. It had a violent seizure, biting her tongue, then locked the jaws, and then died. I had the cat to 3 vets. They suspected cancer in the brain. However, my question is about FIP. I read this is hard to diagnose, and I wonder if my cat had this. She died within 8 days of starting with an eye problem. Also, has anyone else seen such a violent seizure in a cat?

I am so sorry about your cat. This doesn't sound at all like an FIP death, although that doesn't entirely rule it out. I would guess something more like a stroke or some sort of incident which would come from having high blood pressure. Unfortunately there is no way to be certain unless you had an autopsy done.

Again, I'm sorry about your cat. I am sure it must have been terrible to go through that.

Thanks for your reply. I would not let them do an autopsy. The cat went through so much, peace is what she will have! FIP can be wet or dry, and lay dormant for so long. I thought it just might be this. I did let her eat some Parlor Palm, but I don't see it on any toxic list. I just don't know, it was just a horrific way to go. The terrible seizure happened after the blood pressure medicine had been given. Thanks for response.
