Cat has dermatitis on paws from cedar litter

NAB219 May 18, 2004 04:37 PM

My mother has an 10 yr old indoor cat (he has claws)who was limping on Monday. The vet noticed a skin irritation between his toes on his front paws which she felt could be from the cedar litter (which he no longer uses) The vet gave him an antibiotic injection and placed him on a INTERDERMAL antibiotic which is placed on the inner surface of his ear 2 times, day. The paws are to be cleansed with hydrogen peroxide daily. Has anyone had experience with this problem or heard of this interdermal antibiotic use?

I have not heard of either situation. I do know that Cedar can be highly allergenic, however. I would assume there is some sort of secondary infection after the allergic reaction to the cedar which the vet is treating with anti-biotics. Hopefully the cat is no longer using cedar litter and this condition will clear up.
