New kitten has sore on behind

Veronica1984 Jun 01, 2004 01:57 AM

Hi,
First of all I want to say that this is a great website. It has realy helped me and my cats. Thank you.
Now, my concern is that my kitten has a sore next to his bottom (butt). I found him in my yard. He is about 6-8 weeks old. The sore is on the left side of his butt under his tail.I have had him for 2 weeks. The sore was not there when I found him. He has been eating good, playing fine, and using the bathroom good. He has never been outside and I have no other pets. So I don't know what the sore is from. It is the only one. The sore is pink and about the size of a nickle. It has a clear liquid in it. I guess it is puss. He bites and licks it. It is getting a little bigger. I think from him biting it. He does'nt seem like it hurts him.
What do you think it causing it? What can I do for the sore?
I realy can't afford to take him to the vet, but I will if he needs to go.
Thank you!
Veronica

Is the fur falling out around the sore? It's hard to tell you what it could be without looking at it. It could be he was biten before you found him and it's just now starting ot get really infected. It could be ring worm which is a fungus and he would need to see a vet for meds. You best bet would be to go to the vet early before it gets worse. So your bill would be less.

Jaimie is right - it is best to get the cat to the vet ASAP rather than risk waiting and running up a bigger bill because the problem could get more expensive to treat.

Good luck!
