URI??? PLEASE HELP!!!!

DancingBunny18 Aug 24, 2004 08:35 PM

Hello, I got a new kitten about a week ago, and she had previously had a URI.. apparently she was treated for it, but how long does it take to cure... sometimes, especially when she wakes up, she coughs, it sounds almost like she is trying to cough up a hairball.. but she doesnt.. I am getting worried about her, although she is eating and drinking well, and her poop seems fine, she sleeps all day, and is very low enegery... any help would be awsome..

Quite often a cat or kitten will experience a bit of sneezing or coughing when they first come into a new home. It seems to be a bit of sensitivity to different dust, scents, etc in the new place and goes away in a few days. If it lasts longer or there seems to be runny eyes and/or nose then I would want a vet check to make sure the uri hasn't returned. It is always a good idea to have any new pet checked over by your vet within the first few days.

Have you had the kitten to the vet yet? I would have her checked for worms. I remember our cats when I was a kid were coughing a lot. The vet told my mom it was from worms. After they were treated the coughing stopped.

Yes, I took her to the vet this morning, and she has no clue whats wrong with her... Her coughing has stopped, but she is now having real problems breathing... he is treating her for phnemonia(SP?) but it doesnt look good for the poor little thing.. I feel so awful, i have only had a week, and she looks at me and crys, and there is nothing i can, but comfort her.. Thanks for all the help...

I am so sorry about your kitty! I really hope the vet can save her! Please let us know how it goes.
