3 Month old kitten has ringwurms

Sabinetx2003 Jan 16, 2005 02:45 PM

Around 4 weeks i got a little kitten out of a shelter and went to see my vet for a check up with him.
"Frosty" had a cold, was given medications, lots of earmites, got medications for that and ,after a second time i went back they finally found out he has ringwurms. He was given a very stinky bath and also medications i give him every day,for 30 days. The vet told me to come back in 3 weeks for another check up.The first coouple days after the bath i thought Frosty is doing better but now i see he just starts to itch again, like crazy and you can see some open wounds again.I wait for a few more days but than i will call my vet again.
Does anyone ever had this problem with their cat and maybe can give me some information?
I would be so thankful.
Sabine

Welcome to the board. You should call the vet again as soon as possible and not wait until a few days have passed. If the ringworm is not controlled, you might get it and if it is some other thing it should be treated with the right medications.

Good luck! Let us know what the vet says!

Oh do I know about your prob lol.. Ok here is a few things you can do one thing that work very well is a bath with lime sulfur your going to mix one once lime sulfur 2once water and 5 onces of any kind of cat shampo it stinks like rotten eggs but it works dont towl dry just wring her out if she has long hair and then blow dry dont let her lick it off also you can get program fle med its a pill for dogs for a adult cat you can give them the large dog pill and for kittens just cut in in half how i do it is i get the cat milk at petsmart and crush a pill in a spone and then put it in a suringe i cant spell it anyways put it in that with some cat milk and they drink it right up and then 2 weeks later do it again with the pill and such it works trust me.. and for long hair cats you can give the pill once a mo just to make sure they dont get it and if you show you can do it once a mo also and if you show when you get home from your show do the lime bath lol...

Crystal, I think this might be a bit much for a 3 month old kitten. It sounds like the vet did bathe him and probably used a medicated shampoo. But at 3 months the kind of dip you suggested could be very dangerous as could the Program.

Ringworm can be very difficult to get rid of, but if the initial meds aren't working, then checking with the vet for a change is the best solution. The most important thing with ringworm is to be fastidiously clean and wash your hands thoroughly after contact with the kitten.

I agree with PHAby. The kitten is very young. The best thing to do is work with your vet. Be careful when handling the kitten. I have had ringworm before. I caught it when I worked at the shelter. Of course it was on my face. That stunk!
Keep in close contact with your vet.

I have 8 cats and one of the ones I did this on was only about 12 weeks and was a runt at not even a 1LB if you read about it everything that you read will say that program has no side effects at all and for my little kitten i just cut one program tab in half and gave it to her and it worked fine I would never put my cats at risk.. In fact befor I did this I called my breeder and asked her if she has ever heard of such thing and she informed me that she does the program every mo.. for all her cats and after she gets back from a show she does the dip!!
