Some kind of wound near my cat's ear

lunec Apr 11, 2005 10:20 AM

I discovered this morning that my cat has this reddish/bloody sore spot on the baldish spot under her ear. She doesn't get that upset when I touched near it. She plays a lot with my other cat, but its not a scratch, its like a round sore which I can't imagine was a result of my other cat. And I'm pretty sure it appeared overnight, because its red on a white area of skin and I didn't see it yesterday.

My question is - should I just wait and see if it gets better or should I take her to the vet?

Keep an eye on her and see if she is scratching or worrying at that spot. If it seems to bother her, you should probably get her to the vet. I'd give it at least a couple of days, however unless she seems to be very bothered by it.

Hi,

It probably won't hurt to wait another day or so before consulting with a vet, as long as this sore spot doesn't appear to be enlarging or it becomes painful to the cat. My biggest concern is that this wound, whatever it's cause, may become infected.

Please watch the area closely and if it does not appear to be healing take the cat in ASAP.
