New gecko concerns

kg Oct 14, 2003 12:50 AM

Hey everyone. I have some concerns about my new female leo. She's 25 grams and 7-8 inches and the breeder she's from told me she might be gravid with fertile eggs, as she was kept with her adult male tremper. She's a tiny little thing and I'm worried that she might become eggbound or have trouble with her eggs, if she's gravid that is. Has anyone had a gecko this small produce eggs successfully? I don't know, maybe I'm just worrying too much. The pic below shows her size... it's a little crappy because Skaq (the leo) doesn't like human contact of any sort and I had to shoot fast before she jumped off.

But you are plastic and so are your brains.

The primate's scream of consonance is a reflection
of his own mind's dissonance.

Sadistic and constantly inflicting a slow demise.

I purchased a gravid female who was about 30-35 grams. She was pretty small too, but she did manage to lay her eggs just fine. She only laid one egg for her second clutch though.

This is just my experience because both of my females were gravid when I got them, but they both were skitterish at first. They'd hide and wait for their food to walk by instead running around to catch it. Even if they'd be out roaming around when it was time for me to feed them, they would go back and hide before even thinking about taking a bite. I think it's a motherly instinct, because they stopped acting so cautiously after laying their eggs. But it's also possible that they just got used to their environment by that time.
