Cat's nose is puffy

poodeb May 26, 2005 02:39 PM

My black cat's nose is turning pink in spots and looks puffy/swollen. It doesn't seem to bother her and I am taking her to the Vet on Tuesday, but I am really worried. Any ideas? Thanks.

You are doing the right thing by getting a vet exam ASAP! Sorry that due to the long weekend you will have to wait. I have no idea what it could be.

Watch your cat for any signs of extreme distress such as extreme lethargy, lack of appetite, not using the litterbox or hiding. If this happens find an emergency vet and get help ASAP.

Chances are that this will wait until Tuesday when a diagnosis can be made and treatment can start. Good luck. Keep us posted!

Thanks for your reply. Her appetite is definitely good - and she isn't lethargic so hopefully its nothing serious. I will defnitely update on Wednesday : )

Hi There,

If this happened to your cat's nose suddenly, it may be some kind of allergic reaction, or an injury. It's definitely a good sign that your cat is doing well otherwise!

Take care, and please keep us updated. We'd sure like to know what the vet says.

Regards,

Hi. I took her to the vet yesterday and he took some samples to send out for a biopsy and then did a cytology test where he was looking for fungus. He didn't find anything abnormal in the cytology test. He also gave her a shot of penicillin. I should have asked him why. He called to give me the results of the cytology test and I forgot to ask him why he gave her penicilln if he isn't sure what the problem is. We'll get the biopsy results back either Friday or Tuesday. Other than her nose she is doing just fine. Playful, eats well, etc. Thanks for your inquiry and I will report back on Friday or Tuesday. I hope Friday - I have no patience. I just want her healthy.

I hear you - nothing like waiting for the results of a test. I hope the biopsy is normal. Anyhow, thanks so much for the update!

Hi. Got the vet report yesterday. He said my cat is suffering from an "extreme allergic reaction" and he's hoping its her food. We will give her some medication for two weeks, and I had to go to his office yesterday for some special food to try out. Wish us luck! Thanks.

Thanks for the update! I hope your cat gets better soon with the help of the special food and medicine!
