Sneezing and strange odor

Janine May 27, 2005 01:27 PM

I've written on this board a long time ago about my cat Kapono. We've finally come to the conclusion his problems are severe allergies. Although we don't know what he's allergic to, him and I seem to get all stuffy about the same time. Only his turns into a respitory infection and he need breathing treatments. My question is when he sneezes lately, I've noticed a strange musty odor. Is that normal, and maybe I just never noticed it before? Or could it be something new? He goes to the vet quite a bit, but I don't feel he needs to go right now (unless ya'll think he shoudl), he's not really sick. His sneezing came on this afternoon by my other cat popping him on the nose when he kicked her out of her sleeping spot. His nose is real sensitive and when touched a little too hard, he sneezes. anyway, I was wondering if any of you know what the smell could be and maybe is it a sign of something me & the vet have been overlooking. Thanks, Janine

Hi Janine,

Please ask your vet to look into the possibility of your cat having respiratory cryptoccosis, if he or she has not already done so.

To learn about this fungal infection, please check out this site:

Thanks for the info. I wasn't able to open that link. It says it don't exsist or not available for me to view. I did talk to my vet this afternoon, and she has never heard of sneezing and a smell like that. She said maybe he sniffed something before sneezing. I was yea, he sniffed his sister. But, it has happened a few otehr times when he sneezes a bunch of times in a row. I'll ask her about this disease. He does suffer from respitory infections (unles this is just a big name for that, I don't know).
Thanks again, Janine
