Cat peening all over house

zoe Aug 11, 2005 12:35 PM

Hello everyone, I have a bit of a situation with my cat. with my 4 year old cat in the last week he has peed in the house 3 times. He is a very healthy cat and we have had him for 3 years with no problems. Nothing has changed, litter is always clean. All I can think is mabye hes stressed out but he has never showed it by doing this. Im kinda worried if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Allison

Hi Allison!

Any sudden change in urination behaviour should be examined by a vet. He might have a UTI (infection in his bladder) which causes him to pee and not being able to control it all the time. Even if he seems otherwise healthy to you, he still might have a problem.

It might be stress related, but even so, stress can actually lead to physical problems in cats, espcially problems with the urinary tract. So, please, get an appointment for him for a urinalysis to be done.

I would agree with Tilda as well. We had what we thought was a female cat that began doing that (the spca and my vet told me it was a female) Vet gave her antibiotics to clear up her infection. A week later cat in distress - went from peeing all over to not peeing at all. Took it to an emergency vet to find out it was actually a neutered male cat and he had a urinary tract infection and a blockage the size of an orange.

I know mine is a horror story - but I would have him checked out at the vet as soon as possible - a checkup will not only help your cat asap - it is much less costly for a checkup rather than emergency surgery. Males with a uti are in much more danger than females. Let us know!
