cloudy eye

carmeny May 13, 2006 11:00 PM

We live on a farm. Yesterday I noticed that one of my outside male cats had some small amount of discharge from his eye. Looked more like the sandman had visited him - was not runny and was not an odd color. Tonight when he came to the house to eat I noticed the same eye that had the discharge yesterday was cloudy or opaque looking under the light. I looked closer and it is cloudy but in a few small circles - not the entire eye. Does anyway have any idea what this is? There is currently no discharge (not since yesterday) and he is eating, drinking and playing normally. Although I have 7 cats - I definitely know when something is out of the ordinary! If anyone has any suggestions - I would love to hear them! Thank you. Tomorrow is Sunday and we don't have a vet open until Monday.

Hi There,

It will take an exam by a vet to determine what is going on, but I am concerned that your kitty may have some kind of an eye injury or severe infection. A vet check is a good idea, ASAP.
You don't want to compromise your cat's sight in that eye.

If your kitty is a senior citizen, he may be experiencing age-related pigment changes, but these changes are usually slow and gradual and this sounds sudden.

Please take your boy in and let us know how it goes.

He is only 4 years old so I don't think it is age related. No discharge today and the cloudy spots have not gotten bigger. There is no redness or swelling, no blood spots or signs of a fight (with his brother!). I am keeping a close "eye" on him and if no improvement in the next day or so - I will take him in to the vet as my five dogs are going in for their shots and exams right away. I will keep you posted!

Glad to say that his eye has cleared up - there are no cloudy spots on his eye anymore and no discharge - he appears to be good as new - but I will keep monitoring him!
