cat making funny noises

grey_king21 Oct 09, 2006 03:26 PM

I have a 10 year old male maine coon mix cat. This afternoon when I came home he was on the bed as usual, just waking up from his afternoon nap and she started to make a noise that sounded like he was chewing on plastic. I immediatly looked inside his mouth and there was nothing. His nose was dry, but he just woke up so I'm sure that is why. He is otherwise acting normal. Eating well. Using the litterpan, etc.
please help us.
Thank you
Kirsten and buddah

He may have had something irritating his throat like dust or something. If he's not making the noise any more and acting normally otherwise, he's probably OK. If he makes this noise again get him to the vet - he may have something lodged in his throat or have a URI.

Thank you for your response. He has been acting fine since then. It was the weirdest noise I have ever heard from him. He seems to be ok, but I will keep an eye on him. What is URI?
Thanks,
Kirsten

A URI is an upper respiratory infection. I think that since the cat hasn't made that noise since then, that all is probably OK! Maybe it was just a throat irritation of some sort!

Thanks again. I should have known that was what URI stood for. He seems to be ok, but I will keep an eye on him.
