Cat leaving brown liquid drops

oddRA Apr 21, 2007 01:18 AM

We've had our Siamese/shorthair cat for almost five years, since she was three, and ever since we've had her this thing will happen once in a while - maybe every few months or so: When she is purring and "lovey" and being petted, sometimes a drop or two of brown liquid (which I have taken to calling "poo juice" will appear on clothing, the bed, or wherever she was sitting at the time. It smells vaguely like her food (sorry to be gross) and vaguely like excrement. It doesn't happen often, but I always wondered about it. Is this a problem with anal glands? Should I talk to the vet even if it's somewhat rare in our kitty?

Hi There,

This does sound like an anal sac problem. You might want to take your baby to the vet and have him or her manually empty the sacs. They can become infected and/or abscessed in some cats and you want to make sure that this hasn't happened.

Chances are that your cat is fine, but if it were one of my babies I would take the cat in for a vet check. If she tends to just fill up from time to time you can ask the vet to show you how to empty the anal sacs yourself. It really isn't too bad.......although it sounds like it would be. lol
