11y.o. scottish fold always hiding

cwjr Oct 31, 2007 04:30 AM

i have 2 scottish folds. both are 11y.o. from the same litter. the other one had ARF which i posted here about. this is my other one. she has been hiding in my loft bed for a long time.. she's always been pretty anti-social except towards me, and since she eats, drinks, and uses the litterbox i didn't think anything of it... she has always hated the other cats, she stays away from them and she'll hiss and fight them if they come near her.

i've had my cat for 11 years and i'm very attached but i think she might be happier if she was the only cat in the house.. i have a friend that my cat has taken a liking too. and she wants to take her to her place for a little while to see if she would be happier. is this a good idea?

Hi,

This is really a tough one.....

I think that before you make any decisions about placing this kitty, you should have a full blood panel and urinalysis done. It sounds like she is hiding more, and this can indicate health issues, especially in a senior cat. Plus, if you do place her with your friend, you would want to know her health status.

I personally would not place a senior kitty in a new home, although I do understand it can be a good thing in your case. Cats become very attached to their homes and moving is very stressful on a cat, possibly even more so with an older kitty. If she has health problems, the stress can make them worse.

she did have a blood panel and urinalysis done about 6 months ago and she checked out okay. i've decided not to let her stay with my friend. not even for just a trial run. she's not hiding as much anymore the last few days... i think she heard me talking about it...lol. basically, i'm too attached to her and I could not trust anyone else to take care of her.
