question before the vet

pumkin_butter Apr 01, 2008 07:19 AM

i noticed my ~5yr old cat sneezing pretty hard yesterday and the day before, no discharge coming from his nose or eyes so didn't think "too" much about it, but now, when i woke up this morning he was sort of "gasping" for air? like his nose is plugged up? i'm not sure what's going on with him. he's not really acting like himself, he did come over and say hi to me but then went and is currently hiding under the bed. i can hear him "gasping" under there right now. i AM planning on calling my vet, however i can't get him in until tomorrow as i have to go out of town for school stuff all day. i was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/ideas before hand. thanks.

Hi,

I'm not worried about the sneezing, but the gasping thing might be life-threatening. If your cat is truly gasping you have a medical emergency on your hands. I only hope you see this in time to help your cat.

Feline asthma is a possibility, as well as pneumonia, or even a heart problem. All of these problems are very serious. Please get medical attention for your cat as soon as you read this. The hiding should have been a very clear sign that your cat is very ill.

Take care, and I sincerely hope that your kitty will be ok.

Regards,
PHKitkat

i got him to the vet as soon as i was able to get him to the vet...and today they gave him the all clear, of course while he was there all day he didnt sneeze or anything which figures. the gasping i was refering to was not gasping like he was dying...im not stupid and do know the difference. it was more like when you have a cold and cant breath through your nose very well. today he is more perky and actually out and about, aside from still sneezing (of course...) so im wondering if he has allergies. although to what? im not sure.
