Determining sex of kitten?

justinmatthew Oct 23, 2004 03:30 PM

I feel so stupid, my family and I have had our newest kitten for about 1 1/2 mo now. She was born in June. We couldn't quickly determine the sex of the animal but we eventualy became certain it was female for a couple of reasons. One, their wasn't a penis visible (as their is in my small dog a yorkshire terrier), and two their are nipples present, however they don't have any protrusion, they are like dots. However, today, while it was grooming itself I saw what appeared to be the penis protruding from its area but became nonvisible once I picked up the cat. How can I be sure of the sex at this young age? Has anyone else ever made this embarrasing mistake? THank you.

Don't worry it happens all the time. How old is the kitten? I am guessing around 12 weeks. Does it appear to have two small balls about the size of marbles? I think there are a couple of sites on line to help you determine the sex of a cat. I'll try to find them and post them here.

Ok here are two sites that should help you. The first one you have to copy and paste. The second one I attached as a link.

Don't feel stupid, it can be difficult to tell in small kits. One of the easiest ways is that if the 2 holes are very close together it is a girl and if they are further apart it is a boy because they need room to grow boyparts. Of course, you need one of each sometimes to make this comparison.
