I have recently gotten a six week old kitten from a shelter and he loves to play in his litter box! He goes to the bathroom normally but I think he is eating the litter. Is this safe??

No, kittens should not eat litter but they all do. Just make sure that you are using regular litter for them and not the scoopable kind. It can cause blockages in silly kittens. And yes, all kittens like to play in litter boxes, not sure why, but they love it. I guess kinda like human children seem to like to play in the toilet. The kitten will grow out of both behaviors.

Yep, very normal! It is bad if the litter is clumping litter because it can clump up inside the kitten and block his digestive tract. Not good! So if you use that, switch to the regular kind (non clumping) until he gets older.
The last person who replied probably said the same thing. Oh well. Now you know.
