Getting 2 kittens in a few weeks. What do I need to prepair for?

ttangel98 Apr 28, 2005 08:18 PM

Hi all
We are getting 2 sister kittens in a few weeks and I was wondering a few things. 1. How do you litter box train? 2. We will be getting the little ladies on a weekend so they can get used to us and our 1 bedroom apartment. When we leave for work on Monday should we leave both in the bathroom so they don't roam the apartment? Any other thing I need to know that I haven't thought of yet???
Thank you!!

Hello,
Congratulations on getting two new kittens. For litter box training I recommend you put the box in a low traffic area. There is a litter out now called Cat Attract Litter. This will help with the training. Two litter boxes is probably best. The bathroom would probably be a good spot. I kept my kittens in the bathroom while I was away. There is alot of things a young kittens can get into while your not home. Have fun with your new furbabies!

I would put them and the litter box with a place to sleep, food, water and some toys in the bathroom the first night so they get used to it. They should use the box without any help from you. If one has an accident, put the poo in the box for them and they will figure it out. let the out to play with you during the day but take them in to the litter box a few times so they know where it is. And we love pictures

I agree with the cat attract litter, I have used it for kittens and it works very well. What I do with babies and litterboxes is, put them in there and then move their paw in a scratching/burying motion. This way they understand this is where they can dig and bury their poop. Also, little ones can't always hold it very well, so be sure to put them in the box every once in a while during play sessions. If they have to go they will (and it will reinforce where to go) and if not they just hop out and go back to playing. I also recommend having an extra box to move around with them as they play. Sometimes tiny ones can't make it to a box in time if it's far away. Good Luck!!
