New Bengal Kitten Worries

tiggerkitty May 05, 2005 08:09 PM

I got bought a bengal kitten from a breeder a week ago. I am a first-time pet owner, and thought I did my research on the breed pretty well. However, anyone I talk to who knows someone with a bengal cat says I'm in for trouble. Even a vet tech told me this. I have been told that they tear up everything in sight (blinds, clothings, etc.)and that they are aggressive, destructive cats. My kitten is very sweet right now, and none of my research mentioned behavior problems with the breed. Does anyone have any advise or information for me? Ihope my sweet Tigger isn't going to turn into a terror!

I have never been owned by a Bengal however I do know that they are very smart, high energy cats. They love to climb and get in to things but so do most young cats. You might try posting on the Bengal boards. They might have better advise for you

Do you know what generation bengal you have (F3,F5)? The higher the number the more calm the cat will be.

I don't think I would worry with it being fourth generation or higher the cat will have less of those wild tendencies.
