We have to put Rose to sleep

hisgirl93 Nov 22, 2005 04:24 PM

Hi everyone,
I know I haven't been on here much again. I am pregnant! So I have been dealing with severe morning sickness (was hospitalized at one point) and unable to do much on the internet because being up at the computer makes me nauseous.

Anyway, little Rose (my felv kitten) is starting to go downhill and we are going to take her in to be put to sleep soon. I have a dilemma though, which I posted in the holistic vet board but maybe one of you will know something.

Rose has never left the room she was raised in, because of her felv status, and she is 8 months old now. She becomes absolutely terrified (hysterical) when she is taken out of the room and I can't imagine what going to the vet would be like. Although I want to spare her a painful death, I also don't want to put her through a terrifying experience to do so.

Any suggestions? Is there something over the counter I can give her to calm her down first? We are very sad...but I want to do what is best for her.
Thanks everyone.

First congratulations on your pregnancy. I am so sorry about Rose. I know it is very hard for you. Is there any Vet that would come to the house in the area? I know there are some here although I don't use them myself. I don't know of anything over the counter but maybe your Vet could give you something to help calm her some. Good luck and GLOWS to all of you, especially little Rose!!!

So sorry about your kitty...if you have a regular vet, speak to them about coming to your house to do it..many will. Glow to your kitty for a quick and peaceful trip over the bridge...

Thanks ladies.
Well I took her down to the vet today and she did much better than I thought she would, she only resisted when they took her temp or listened to her chest. She waited quietly in my lap while I waited for the x-ray results and called the rescue group to see what to do. The x-ray showed she had almost no lung capacity left due to the felv, so we had her put down. I stayed in the room with her, stroking her head, and it was very quick and painless. I just wish the poor little thing never got felv in the first place! She was such a sweetheart and I'm very sad.

I'll try to pop in here more often now that I'm feeling better. I love giving advice about kittens because it seems like we've raised about a hundred between our cats and the foster cats (more like 20-30 but still!).

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving...

Glows for you and Rose too. I am sure that she is at the bridge feeling much better and playing and running.
