Baby Kitten lost in the bathroom

ErinSweet2003 Jun 21, 2006 02:51 PM

Hello. I brought a kitten in to feed and take care of for 1 night, possibly longer. I am guessing about 5 weeks old. It had been trapped under a car, small burn on its head, and I do not know where it's mother is. I had it in a small apartment bathroom with nothing for it to get into and now I can not find it in anything. I have even checked the toilet. I am a cat lover, but do not know that much about kittens. Can someone tell me if it would be bale to fit under the crack in the doorway? I am at a loss. I thought I heard it meowing, but now I can not get a response from calling it or placing tuna out. Please help!

Oh Goodness. The first thing you need to do is take everything out of the bathroom one item at a time, checking it completely. Trash cans, toilet brush holders, towels, throw rugs, every thing that can be removed, remove it. If you still see no kitten then you need to get down on the floor and look for the smallest of openings like under the sink or any cabinets that the kit could squeeze through. If her head can fit through then she can fit through. Then try putting some really smelly food like tuna or salmon in the middle of the now empty bathroom and wait to see if she/he comes out. If not, you may have to call someone to dismantle whatever she is in or under. Good luck and let us know!!!!!

Ok, this might sound a little strange, but it's worked for me. Try imitating the sound of the kitten's cry. My aunt had a litter, years ago, and one wondered off and i heard it crying. I meowed to it and it responded, which led me to the poor little thing! Hopefully u find the baby soon!!!

I found it late last night. Thanks for the help. It had crawled through a tiny hole in the baseboard under the cabinent and was underneath the cabinet. Do you think it is safe to try and keep a kitten like this that I found? It is just so scared. I have never seen a kitten this scared. Thanks everyone.

So long as it's not attacking you, I would keep it. Maybe put it in like a little card board box with a stuffed animal or something. If you don't feel comfortable with that, take it to a no-kill shelter. Being 5 wks old, I doubt it'll be able to survive on it's own.

I was too in your position. I found a kitten along side the road, but he wasn't scared and he was very friendly, so he immediately stole my heart. About a year later, I found another one, but it was completely feral and wild. I successfully caught it and attempted to feed it and whatnot but it continually tried to attack me so I just let it go. I felt bad for not doing more, but I wasn't about to keep a critter that was out to draw blood.

Good luck!

I am glad that you found the baby. I hope that the hole is now sealed up. Of course she is scared, she is a baby and she can't find her Mommy and littermates and a strange person has her locked up in a strange place. She is young enough to learn to love people. Give her food, water and a box. As well as some toys to play with. Go in there with her and just sit, read a book aloud, take some yummy treats for her. Put the treats away from you and sit still keep reading to her. That way she will get used to your voice and smell and with the treats will associate you with nice things. Give her time and let her make the moves
