kitten with seizures

sheeplady2e Sep 23, 2006 11:17 AM

I have heard that there are natural products available to help seizures in kittens. I had my kitten to a vet and he is unable to do tests on her because of her small size approx 1 lb in size. I found her and 4 siblings motherless just over a month ago. One sibling was too small to make it but the others have been doing well. Emily was doing really well until the other morning. When I put them in their kennel for the night she was bouncing and playing. In the morning she staggered out of the kennel and has gone downhill since. The vet says she is too small to put on any antiseizure medication that he has and he has nothing that can help her.

I don't know of anything but am sending prayers and GLOWS your way for this tiny baby. Thanks for trying to save them and give them a good life. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion to help you.

Hi,

Thanks for taking care of these precious babies.

I highly recommend that you consult with another vet, preferably a feline specialist. The kitten needs a thorough neurological exam, and needs her blood glucose tested. She also needs to be tested for FeLV, which can cause seizures in kittens. Even though she is tiny, a small amount of blood can be drawn. It only takes a drop of blood to check blood glucose and 3 drops to run a leukemia test. It's very important to try and determine the cause of the seizures.

I would not try to treat these seizures with anything on my own. Even natural products are often toxic to cats.

Take care, and please keep us updated. I'll keep your baby in my thoughts and prayers.

Regards,
PHKitkat

I lost my little kitty she developed pneumonia just when the seizures started to slow down. I hope that she has gone to a far better place.

I am sorry for your loss. You did the best you could for her. She had a short live but at least she wasn't out in the cold and hungry.

I am so sorry that you lost Emily. I know you tried very hard with her. I hope the others continue to do well and thank you for trying to save them all. At least Emily knew she was loved for her 4 weeks with you.
