Litter Box Issues

Cailin Oct 05, 2006 04:44 PM

Hi! I was hoping maybe someone could help me with a few issues I am having with my 4.5 month old kitten. She is really good about using the litter box... but she gets herself really messy doing it! I use feline pine and she ends up with it all over her, even on her head! Will she get over this once she is bigger? Or is there some way for me to teach her to be less messy? She also hates it when I change the litter and put in fresh stuff... wierd huh? Any advice!

Thanks!
Cailin

She is a kitten and I suspect she is playing in the box. She will most likely grow out of that. Kittens are just plain silly! Not sure why she doesn't like a clean box, mine adore a clean box. In fact I swear that some of them hold it in order to be the first to use it as soon as I have scooped them.

I have ten cats in my house. I have three litterboxes that I scoop three times a day.

It seems to be a rather bonding experience to use the litterbox. The ones who are best buddies like to go together. Every time I scoop, somebody has to jump in it. We often form a line to use the litterbox while I am trying to scoop. (Yeah, very helpful.)

Kittens like to play in the litter. It's just cool. They (usually) do grow out of it, too. My main concern is always that they don't eat it.

A piece of carpeting under the box that they have to step on on the way out helps with the tracking problem, too.

I wouldn't worry too much about a 4.5 month old kitten being messy about it. Kids is kids.
