Havana Brown

Featherlite84 Oct 19, 2006 10:17 PM

I am a college student in a small town in Northern California. I have two cats of my own, both mixtures of numerous breeds. A few weeks ago I found a kitten in the road, I pulled over and picked it up. It was way to young to be outside and alone. I recognized that his coloring was odd, I had never seen a chocolate brown cat before. After a lot of research I have found out that he is a Havana Brown. He has all of the characteristics (eye color, fur color, personality). But other than that I don't know much about this cat. I am having trouble believing that he was a stray, yet nobody has claimed him! Obviously somebody didn't know what they have, but then again, I don't know much either. Anybody have a Havana Brown?

Hi There,

Chances are that the kitten you found is not a Havana Brown. This breed is pretty rare and you are not likely to find one anywhere but through a breeder. Definitely not in the street.

Anyway, you saved a life and that is what is important!

Looks can be deceiving in cats. I have a cat that looks like a purebred tortie point siamese, but her mother was a brown tabby and the father was a black cat. I also have a cat that looks very much like a Burmese, although she is black. She was born feral, though.

Cat genetics are fascinating. It's always interesting to hear breeders talk about the different colors and patterns in whatever breed they have.

Regards,

I would have to agree that it is highly unlikely that you found a Havana Brown wandering the road. They are indeed rather rare and a breeder would certainly know that one was missing. They are quite expensive kitties. The best way for you to find out for sure is to have a vet examine the kitten, which should be done anyway. Whatever he is, thank you for saving him and I am sure you already love him.
