Not eating? Looking for love, but no playing? Your little furbaby doesn't feel good and is looking for comfort.

Call the shelter, they may be the quickest way to a vet check-up since furbaby just came home with you. Furbaby needs a medical check up - shelter cats are often infected with respirtory viruses - or there might be an infection from the s/n op starting.

Hope your new furbaby is feeling well soon!

Hi,

I really worry when a kitten won't eat as they can go downhill very rapidly, especially such a young kitten. You can try feeding him some strained meat baby food (with no onion added) but a vet exam is still needed.

Chances of an infection would be minimal for neutering, although still a possibility. Can you tell if the incision looks infected? Does he feel warm, as if he has a fever? Do you know if the little guy has been tested for at least Feline Leukemia and what his vaccine history is? Most shelters will recommend a vet check as soon an possible after adoption, and provide a list of vets willing to do an initial free exam.

As another poster stated, your baby might have been exposed to something at the shelter and may be getting sick. URI can take a few days to cause symptoms after a cat is exposed, and the stress of having surgery can compromise the immune system.

If this kitten were mine, I would take him in first thing tomorrow. You can't be too careful.

Please keep us updated.

I agree with the others. This little furbaby should be eating and exploring and getting into stuff. He is a little young and may be a little on the shy side but he still should eat when he thinks you are not looking. He needs to be checked over by a Vet to make sure that he is healthy and feeling well. Let us know about him.

i took lil sammy in to the vet today because his condition worsened...i was at the vet for 15 minutes and he passed away on the vets table...i forgot the exact terminology she used but she said the entire litter was born with it(some sort of virus)....i never knew i could grow so attached to a kitten that ive only known for a day and a half....it hurts really bad....im also really upset that north shore animal league would sell me a kitten that had problems and not tell me and make me go through this heartache..not to mention my wife and kids as well...
i would like to sincerely thank everyone that expressed concern for my kitty...the vet said i would have to wait 3 weeks before bringing a new kitty home and i would have to disinfect all the areas that the kitten touched because the virus is highly contagious..dont know if i have it in me to get another kitty that soon but time will tell...

thanks again

Hi,

I am so very sorry about Sammy. It's heartbreaking that something like this can happen, especially right before Christmas.

I'm sending healing prayers and Glow to you and your family.......

I'm so sorry for your loss! I'm sure the shelter didn't intend to send a sick kitty home with you. Diseases are clever things, they find ways to defeat us sometimes no matter what we do to avoid them.

Sammy and your family are in our thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is very easy to get attached to a kitten, they are cute and charming. Make sure that you let North Shore know about the kitten, in case they have others who may be sick. I am sure that they didn't mean to sell you a sick kitten. Kittens get really sick, really fast sometimes. You will know when it is time to try again with another furbaby and please come and tell us all about he/she when you do!!!
