Pic of My "Cinnamon Girl"

BlackHeartNY Jun 15, 2007 01:01 PM

This may very well be the last pic I get of my beautiful girl. I had to take her to the vet yesterday because she was having a hard time pooping again. Although she is 4 weeks old, she should be much bigger. Vet said she's been backed up for some time. They administered fluids, and gave her enemas to clean her out. They WERE successful in getting the HUGE piece of poop out, but the Vet told me that if she doesn't do well within in the next day or so, it's quite possible she has Megacolon (a congenital defect).

If this is the case, there is a choice of operating on her (but at her size, 0.4 lbs., she might not survive), or continual enemas at the Vet when she gets backed up (for the rest of her life).

I'm so sad and sick over it. She seems so very alive and vital, but she doesn't eat well I've been trying to force-feed her but it's not going too well. Now that I'm crying, I need to post her pic and get out of here.

Hi There,

I am so sorry about what you and Cinnamon are going through. It's so difficult to have a baby that isn't doing well.

Megacolon is actually something that can often be controlled with diet and/or medication. Every case is different, though, and Cinnamon is so very tiny. The surgery done is usually a sub total colectomy and I have not heard of it done in such a young baby. Perhaps if surgery is needed it can be posponed for awhile.

I am hoping and praying that Cinnamon will do better than expected. Please ask your vet if he or she thinks that there is a medication that may help her get through this difficult period. Lactulose often helps cats with megacolon. It is a liquid given orally that remains in the GI tract and helps add fluid to the stool. Regular stool softeners may be helpful as well but please double check with your vet first.

Again, I am very sorry, and will keep you and Cinnamon in my thoughts and prayers. She is such a cutie.

Regards,
PHKitkat

I am so sorry to hear that she is having problems. Let's keep her in our prayers that she starts going on her own. I've seen some websites where they actually recommend canned pumpkin to keep the tummies working, but it may be for older kittens. Let's hope she makes it through.

Well, this is the first time I could come back to the forums and post. Just wanted to let you all know that my little Cinnamon Girl left me on June 20th (her Mama's 1st birthday). It was a long, hard, horrible day. I stayed by her side and held her lots. At least now I know she's never going to have to suffer again. She's gone Over the Rainbow Bridge! RIP my "Cinnamon Girl."
