Prices for Pac-man frogs!

insideoutsider13 Oct 14, 2003 08:45 AM

I was thinking of purchasing a Argentine horned frog, also known as a Pac-man frog from a local pet store. I believe they are extremely overpriced by charging 35$ a frog. On further investigation I have seen many sites that charge the same price for an Albino frog. Are these prices high? What is the average running price for a Argentine Horned frog, Ornate horned toad, or a pac-man frog (basically all the same thing) Thank you for your help!

Go to any reptile show and you can get most normals for around 10 bucks. The show I go to had them for that, plus a further discount if you purchased multiple frogs. Don't pay 35 bucks for one, unless, of course, it's a subadult or an adult frog...

well here in winnipeg, manitoba(canada) i bough mine like 2 days ago for 50$, which isnt bad considering most pet stores sell them for like 70$. Even if i were to order one from a breeder in the states it would cost me like 50$ so that wasnt to bad pacmans rule i suggest if u like herps/amps that you get a pacman thats my input.

Well at the reptile/fish store I work in, we have a normal ornate for 12 bucks. This is just outside Los Angeles. It is a juvilile about 1.5 inches long.

I bought my adult for $40 at a local pet store. Babies are about $25 around town (Salt Lake City, Utah).

I sell baby albinos for $35, prices depend on how many a dealer buys at a time. If they buy like 20 at a time, there is a large pricebreak, but if they are only buying a few, the price is higher. Deals can be had at reptile shows but you have to be careful to make sure they are healthy. You usually get what you pay for. Location also has to do with pricing. Herps are usually cheaper in California or Florida where most of the wholesalers are. But $35 isn't an outrageous price for a healthy pac man, whether it is normal or albino.

It all depends on which species it is, all I can find around here are Crawnells Horned Frogs, I would gladly pay $35.00 for a nice healthy looking Ornate Horned Frog, and if it's a Surinam Horned Frog thats a great deal. Most of our local prices are like this normal Cranwells horned Frog $25.00 Albino Cranwells Horned Frog $30.00, and where you live the prices vary as well. You can sometimes order them online for $8.00 each but then you have shipping costs as well.

Depends on what size the frog is. I have seen an Ornate go for about $100, but that specimen was very large female (about 6 inches in diameter, and a big eater!) I paid $30 for my albino when she was only about 2 inches stv, but now she is around 5". I would only pay a lot for one if it is already quite large (at least 2 inches) because in my experience, the smaller these frogs are, the higher their mortality rate.
