gtchris May 28, 2003 08:51 AM

I was wondering if anyone knew the best diet for a gold tegu. Right now its about a foot long and eats a hella lot of crickets, and the occasional pinky. Thanks

Looks good. The golds tend to eat a lot of insects and rodents. You may want to add a vitamin to the insects and experiment with fruits, vegetables, and meats. They usually do not take the omnivore stuff but it is worth a try especially as they get older. Whole rodents are optimum and the golds really like them.

My gold is about 1 1/2 yrs old, and he eats mainly mice and raw turkey (SDZ Diet). He likes chasing crickets, though he doesn't always eat them. He sometimes eats mango, banana, or melon, but usually just flicks his tongue at fruit.
