orphaned 3 week old kitten

gin_gin Oct 26, 2008 01:32 AM

I found an abandoned kitten yesterday in the parking lot where I work, she isn't very old, maybe 3 to 4 weeks at the most. I was bottle feeding her yesterday and part of today. I have gotten her to lap some kitty formula from a saucer this evening. I have been rubbing her genital area with a damp washcloth trying to stimulate her to go to the bathroom, so far I have gotten her to pee twice. She hasn't had a bowel movement. She's still a little wobbly on her feet but she is getting stronger. How can I get her to have a bowel movement? I'm afraid she's gonna get constipated

Bless you for saving this adorable little baby. She is very cute. 24 hours is not real long to start worrying about her bowels. Afterall, you don't know how long it had been since she was fed by her Mommy before you found her. If she is around 4 weeks then you can start her on a little canned food and see if she eats that but she looks more like 3 weeks in the picture. If she will lap from a bowl, she will probably eat some canned, mix it with formula so that it is a liquid for her at first. Good luck and let us know how the baby is doing.

Oh I will thank you...she is such a sweet heart. i think she was from a feral cats litter. we have feral cats around where I work. I don't know if that's the case or not. But more than likely so. Don't know how she made it to the parking lot, but the wooded area is about 50yds from the parking lot, maybe mama cat dropped her while moving or no longer wanted her? I don't know. but she's a sweety.
